Welson Tremura is a Brazilian-born professor, ethnomusicologist, guitarist and vocalist whose career bridges academic research and live performance. At the University of Florida, he has served in the School of Music and Center for Latin American Studies while directing initiatives centered on Brazilian music.

His research examines music and religion, particularly Folia de Reis and the ways ritual, memory and community are carried through song. His creative and educational work has taken him throughout the Americas, Europe, China and New Zealand.
